Thumbs up for bandstand plan

Plans to improve Victoria Park’s iconic bandstand have been given the go ahead by Erewash Borough Council.

Renovations are set to be in keeping with the original design of the bandstand from when it wasfirst built in 1923.

Refurbishments include the fitting of a new roof, installation of lighting, and replacement of plants surrounding the bandstand.

Councillors said that the developments are desperately needed, and can only enhance the park’s potential after having been sadly neglected over a number of years.

The work is set to restore the original character and heritage of the bandstand.

Essential maintenance has previously taken place to preserve original features, but backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund now allows the structure to be restored to its original state.
