'˜Thorough investigation' needed after sickness outbreak closes Derbyshire school

A leading law firm is calling for a thorough investigation after a sickness outbreak closed a Derbyshire school.

St John’s Primary School in Belper had to be closed for deep cleaning today (Friday) after an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea, affecting 86 pupils and three members of staff.

He said: “It is welcome that staff at St John’s Primary School have taken steps to close this school to prevent the illness spreading any further and to allow a deep clean to take place over the weekend.

“However, there needs to be a thorough and immediate investigation into what caused so many children and staff to fall ill. We have seen through our work that gastric illnesses of this nature can have a significant impact on young people and can cause long-term health complications for victims.

“Due to the number of young people falling ill, it is clear that many people will be seeking answers and it is vital the parents of those affected understand what caused their children’s illnesses.”
