Teens take first step into construction
Jess Holland, from Chesterfield, and Daniel Hobson, from Stoney Middleton, start the programme at Breedon’s Apprenticeship Academy cementwWorks.
Daniel, 18, who starts an electrical apprenticeship with the company, will undertake a four-year programme. The first year will be spent full-time at Chesterfield College working towards an NVQ level two in performing engineering operation four days a week, with the fifth day spent working towards a BTEC level three.

Hide AdJess, 19, who starts a commercial apprenticeship with the company, will be working towards a level two qualification in business administration at Buxton and Leek College.
Jess said: “I was attracted to the company’s apprenticeship programme for the business development opportunities that it offered. I look forward to starting my apprenticeship at Hope Cement Works – the company really seems to value its employees.”
Daniel added: “My school work experience placement was at Hope Cement Works and I was impressed with the company’s approach to safety and the environment. The apprenticeship programme now gives me an opportunity to pursue my passion for engineering.”

The apprenticeship programme combines college education with practical, hands on experience and both apprentices will be provided with mentors who will support them through the scheme.
