Talks on mobile library service

The £720,000 service – which accounts for 17 per cent of all library issues – is under threat as part of Derbyshire County Council’s bid to save £157m in five years.

The authority is inviting members of the public to have their say on the controversial plans which could include running a reduced service – or scrapping it altogether.

Cllr Dave Allen, the council’s cabinet member for health and communities, said: “We’re facing unprecedented pressures on our budget which sadly means we have no alternative but to review all our services, including libraries.”

Consultation questionnaires are available in all Derbyshire County Council branch and mobile libraries and GP surgeries or can be completed online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/mobilelibraries

Stage one of the consultation will run until March 1.

A more detailed stage two is due to start in April and run until June.
