The arboretum is near Alrewas off the A38 in Staffordshire and the walk will be on on Sunday, May 11 starting at at 1pm.

The annual fundraising event is an ideal opportunity for people to explore the beautiful memorial landscape while helping to support the Arboretum, which is part of The Royal British Legion family of charities. Walkers will complete either a 5km or a 10km circuit of the grounds, ending at the magnificent Armed Forces Memorial, said a spokesman.

Mandi Silver, from Norwich, has never visited the arboretum, but decided to take part in Walk for Remembrance after reading about the event on its Facebook page.

Mandi, who comes from a military family, said: “I have been lucky not to lose anyone close to me but I want to pay my respects to all those who have given their lives for us - they have paid the ultimate sacrifice and should be remembered. I am looking forward to exploring the Arboretum and doing something so worthwhile, and I wish everyone an enjoyable day.”

Joy Bratherton, a committee member for the Western Front Association, lives in Cheshire with her husband, but was brought up in Rugely, Staffordshire. Her father, Squadron Leader Redvers Stanley, was a serving officer in the Royal Air Force for many years, so in 2008 Joy brought him to the Arboretum for his 80th Birthday, which he loved. Sadly he passed away last July, so when Joy saw Walk for Remembrance advertised on the website, she thought it would be a great way of raising money for the Charity whilst keeping his memory alive.

Mike and Moira Steventon live in Birmingham and, although they have always intended to visit the Arboretum, they are yet to do so. Having seen Walk for Remembrance featured on the Arboretum’s website, however, they decided it was a great opportunity to visit and raise some funds at the same time. Mike said “We’re not walking to remember anyone in particular, but to help support this national memorial which is a very special place to a great many people”.
