Following the news that the county council–led Digital Derbyshire scheme will be rolling out super fast broadband to more areas of Derbyshire, James McKay, who lives and runs his business in Ashover, claims he is still battling with broadband speeds of just 1.1Mb.

James, director of the Honeybank group, which provides exotic animals to the TV and film industries, said: “I’m working for people like Warner Brothers and the BBC, who want to see pictures of my animals before they hire me.

“If I can’t email pictures to people then they will go to my competitors.”

James has been based in Ashover for 20 years, and says he would not like to move because it is his home, however thinks it is unfair that the more rural areas in Derbyshire don’t get good broadband speed.

“It’s costing me a lot of money and stifling my business,” he said.

James added that neighbouring Tansley and Matlock enjoy much better broadband speed than Ashover.

He said he paid the maximum amount for broadband but still doesn’t get the service needed.

The Digital Derbyshire web page claims that Ashover will receive broadband over two phases – one this year and the other in 2016.
