Council chiefs have given the green light to demoliish its former South Normanton depot to make way for a potential housing development.

Bolsover District Council announced its plans on Thursday, January 8, to flatten the depot and clear the site on Meadow Lane.

Council regeneration cheif, Councillor Alan Tomlison said: “Our budgets are being squeezed tighter and tighter each year.

“so we can’t just keep sitting on empty properties or vacant pieces of land that are costing us money to maintain.”

The council has been working on a programme of developments during the last year that will help them deliver new housing across the district including the Meadow Lane site.

It is currently working on obtaining outline planning consent for residential development on the site and will shortly be demolishing the former Meadow Lane Depot to clear the land.

The demolition will make the land more attractive to any potential housing developers.

Cllr Tomlison added: “We have been looking at what we own, including buildings and land, and their potential uses so we can make an informed decision on the best way forward.

“The demoliton and sale of the Meadow Lane site is seen as the most sensible option as it will rid the area of an empty building whilst at the same time provide much needed housing.”

The former Meadow Lane site was previsously used as a Council Depot before being occupied by Groundwork Creswell, Ashfield and Mansfield up until last year.
