The Met Office yellow ‘be aware’ alert is valid between 5pm and 10pm on Monday.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Rain, spreading from the west, will fall as snow above 200m to 300m for a time on Monday evening, giving a risk of temporary snowfall accumulations of one to two centimetres and perhaps up to five centimetres over high ground above 400m.

“There will also be a risk of patchy ice where rain, sleet and snow fall on frozen surfaces.

“Be aware that some localised travel disruption is likely, mainly over high level routes.”
