Shell-shocked station staff

Staff at Wirksworth Train Station were shell-shocked after discovering a pair of tortoises on Cemetery Lane Bridge, near the station.

The tortoises had escaped from a house near the station on Tuesday, June 18, while their owners were away on holiday. The pair were reunited with their owners later that day, though.

Neil Ferguson-Lee, director of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, said: “The dynamic duo obviously just made a break for it. But they are safe now.”

However, there is still one tortoise on the run. If you see him, contact Wirksworth Station on 01629 823076.
