Security reminder to motorists after series of thefts from vehicles in Amber Valley

Police are urging drivers to lock it or lose it after a number of attempted break-ins and thefts from vehicles in Amber Valley.

Sometime between 11pm on Saturday May 2 and 3am on Sunday May 3, cash and keys were taken from inside a van parked in Williamson Gardens in Langley Mill (CR/18514/15).

The passenger window of a vehicle parked on Valley View Road in Riddings was smashed sometime between 9.30pm on Thursday April 30 and 5.45am on Friday May 1, before money was taken from within (CR/18121/15).

Sometime between 10.30pm on Wednesday April 29 and 7.25am on Thursday April 30, money was stolen from inside a vehicle parked on Maidwell Close in Belper (CR/17956/15).

Thieves prised a fuse box open underneath the steering wheel of a van on Danesby Rise in Denby, before taking fuel, oil and a torch from inside. The incident happened sometime between 6pm on Sunday April 26 and 5.30am on Monday April 27 (CR/18031/15).

Officers have also received reports in recent weeks of attempted vehicles break-ins on Lockton Avenue in Heanor and The Pemberton, Broadmeadows in South Normanton.

To help deter thieves, drivers are being urged to:

• Ensure that any valuables are left out of view from passers-by, or removed completely where possible;

• Wipe away any sucker marks left by sat-navs or mobile phone holders as this can also help to prevent a vehicle from being targeted;

• Park in a well-lit, overlooked area and use a garage if possible;

• Report any suspicious incidents to police by calling 101.
