Rowsley’s new football team needs players

For the first time in over 40 years Rowsley has a junior football club – but not enough players to form a side!

After sourcing football strips, training equipment and a place to play, team manager David Pullins was confident the new side would be a success.

But after applications to join Rowsley United Football Club Under 11’s were not forthcoming, David is now making a desperate plea for players in the area to join the new team.

David said: “As far as possible, we have tried to recruit locally, but as this has proved difficult and we are still looking for suitable players.

“The ethos of the team is that everyone is equal whether we win, draw or lose. Respect and appreciation of others is a vital part of our team values.”

Rowsley Parish Council have given the club permission to use the village’s recreation ground for home games, which they will share with the adult side, Rowsley 86.

“We are extremely thankful to the Rowsley Parish Council for supporting us in our efforts to bring grass roots football back to the village,” said David.

“I’d also like to thank T3MOTION who have paid for a brand new kit,” he added.

Local schools have been involved in a competition to design the team emblem. However, as there were so many entries, David is still working through them.

The team is open to boys and girls who are aged between 9 and 11-years-old by 31 August 2013.

To find out more, or to join the side call David on 01629-760091.

“Although there have been successful adult teams for many years, junior football has lapsed. But we will change that,” said David.
