ROWSLEY: Traveller family drop electricity demand

A family of gypsies, who have been offered a temporary traveller site in Rowsley, have dropped their request for electricity to be provided.

In June the Mercury reported that the family had accepted Derbyshire Dales District Council’s offer of a temporary traveller site in Old Station Close, Rowsley – on the proviso that an electricity was provided.

A decision was supposed to be taken this Thursday, but today the family announced that they were dropping their request for electricity.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Dales District Council said: “The Travellers have now withdrawn their request for electricity at the temporary site in Rowsley. It means a report on all the costings associated with this site will now be presented to our Environment Committee on July 18.”

Updates to follow and the full story will be in this week’s Mercury.
