Ripley schools to join forces for sixth form

Amber Valley Sixth Form, a Post-16 provision for young people from 16 to 19 has been launched by The Ripley Academy and John Flamsteed Community School.

Students who attend Amber Valley Sixth Form will be based at The Ripley Academy, which currently has extensive Post-16 facilities, and there will be opportunities to work at John Flamsteed Community School.

Parents, carers and students attended the launch of the sixth form at the Ripley Academy where they met teaching staff including principal Carey Ayres, and Lisa Walton, headteacher of John Flamsteed Community School.

There will be another opportunity to find out more about the venture at an open evening taking place at The Ripley Academy on October 7, between 6pm and 8pm.

Carey Ayres said she was looking forward to welcoming students from across Amber Valley.

She said: “As we embark on this venture, working with colleagues from John Flamsteed Community School, I envisage the Amber Valley Sixth Form as a place to support, encourage and inspire more young people from across the region.

“Whichever school you’re from, you can be assured of a warm welcome, high quality teaching, an exciting enrichment programme and second-to-none support at the sixth form.”

Lisa Walton also said she was delighted to be working in partnership with the academy.

She said: “This is an exciting venture led by vastly experienced staff striving to ensure that the Amber Valley Sixth Form is not only a transformational part of your life story but becomes a beacon of excellence within the area and beyond.”
