Ripley murder inquiry

Police were called to Butterley Hill at 10pm by local people who reported an assault.

When officers arrived they found a man, in his 40s, suffering serious injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics but died later at Kingsmill Hospital in Niottinghamshire.

A 38-year-old local man was arrested and is detained in custody.

A post mortem examination of the victim will be carried out on Monday.
