A review into how child sexual exploitation can be prevented and how victims are supported is being carried out.

Derbyshire County Council’s Improvement and Scrutiny People Committee wants to understand people’s awareness and understanding of child sexual exploitation, about the help which is available and how they think children can be better protected.

Residents – as well as organisations that help safeguard children – are being encouraged to contribute to the review.

Victims of abuse are being contacted directly to gather their views about support services.

The online consultation will close on March 7.

The committee will use the contributions to write a report which will be considered by the council’s Cabinet in the summer.

Improvement and Scrutiny People Committee Chairman Councillor Diane Charles said: “We’re carrying out this review to make sure the council is doing everything it can to keep children safe and support victims.

“We want to hear from as many people and organisations as possible – and we would urge anyone who has been a victim of abuse but hasn’t come forward to report it to the police immediately.”
