Pupils study Matlock town

Matlock town centre was the site of the first geographical fieldwork for year seven students from Highfields School during the last couple of weeks of May.

The pupils investigated how Matlock has changed as a destination over the years. Brandishing clipboards with questionnaires, students asked people why they were visiting Matlock, and where they did their food shopping to find out what impact Sainsbury’s has had on the town. They also did a land use survey of Bank Road Causeway Lane, and Hall Leys park to explore the activities and facilities on offer in the park.

Now armed with research, students will use their findings to consider what might happen to Matlock in the future and how its function might change.
