The theft took place shortly after 9am on Wednesday morning, December 10, from the Crispin pub, in Church Street, Ashover.

Landlady Michelle Hird was on the premises at the time and had left the back door unlocked so her partner could come in.

“I was going up and down the stairs to the kitchen,” she said.

“I was in the kitchen when I noticed there was a man walking away from my door and I thought ‘what was he doing?’”

She added: “I’d just got some money out to take to the bank.”

Michelle said she had put the money in a box underneath her bed, which is in the flat above the pub.

When she went upstairs she found the money had gone.

“He must have come in while I was there, gone upstairs and taken it,” the landlady continued.

Michelle said the takings had been particularly high that weekend as the Ashover Christmas lights had been switched on.

She contacted the police, and has since warned all the other pubs in Ashover of the theft.

“I’ve heard these things can happen in spates,” she added.

Michelle described the man as being in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall and of skinny build. He was wearing trainers, dark trousers or jeans, a grey hoodie and a grey ‘trapper–style’ hat.

She saw the man drive away in an old looking blue car.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
