Jobs created in store will be both part-time and full-time, and additional positions will be created for the maintenance of the building. Constructions jobs will also be created during the development period.

Lidl’s regional head of property, Graham Burr, said: “We are delighted with the response from the local community and I would like to thank everyone that submitted feedback on the proposals.

“The development will regenerate an eyesore and since purchasing the site, we have already taken steps to tidy up and improve the outlook for neighbouring residents.”

The proposals for the new store were submitted to Bolsover District Council in July this year.

The plans also include a car park for 122 vehicles.

The site had been subject to two previous applications from Tesco in 2010 and 2011. Both were successful but expired before work commenced.

The planning documents claim the scheme will bring inward investment into the area, will provide a new improved retail provision in Shirebrook, enable the redevelopment of a brownfield site and will provide new employment opportunities.

The documents state: “The site is brownfield and is currently vacant having formally had a public house, The White Swan, standing upon the northern part of the site. The southern and western parts of the cleared site formally had two blocks of flats located upon it at the corner of Market Street and Portland Road and terraced and semi-detached premises located on it off Market Close and Market Street. These buildings have all since been demolished.”
