Coun Serjeant told the Derbyshire Times: “We have ambitious plans for Staveley that will see positive changes to the local economy and the prospects of local people.

“This is particularly important as our communities recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have adopted an Economic Recovery Plan covering the whole of the borough.

“In addition, Staveley has been included as a town eligible to participate in the Government’s Town Deal programme.

“The council is leading the process, with key partners and stakeholders, to develop a Town Investment Plan for up to £25million to be spent on regenerating the Staveley area.

“A Staveley Town Deal board has been established and the work to prepare the investment plan is underway.

“The Town Deal will allow Staveley the opportunity to build on the foundation of previous regeneration activity.

“For example, the council previously worked with Staveley Town Council on the refurbishment of Staveley Hall which was funded by Heritage Lottery and European Regional Development Fund.

“There are also plans for the delivery of the Chesterfield Staveley Regeneration Route and work is progressing on the remediation of the former Hartington Colliery site.”

Coun Serjeant added that the borough council has supported local businesses throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: “This has included business rates reliefs and grants and discretionary grants.

“The council has paid out £25.7m in small business grants to 2,202 Chesterfield businesses, administered business rates relief to a value of £18m to 661 businesses and shared a further £1.13m in discretionary grants to organisations across Chesterfield borough, including Staveley.
