Two tired 1950s bungalows will be demolished and replaced with a pair of luxury houses in a Peak District village.

Members of the Peak District National Park Planning Committee approved the plans for two detached double-fronted homes on the site of Bella Vista, in Tinman Lane, Sheen.

The four-bedroomed homes proposed by applicant Mr R Blackhurst would be constructed out of natural gritstone and one of them would have a single garage attached.

Speaking in a meeting on Friday, September 30, Councillor Andrew Hart commented: “It’s a shame to lose bungalows such as this because there is a need within the area, so we’re swapping bungalows for detached houses and the people that would be in the bungalows would be perhaps substantially different from the ones that would like in the open market house.”

Chairman Councillor Patrick Brady echoed his concerns, but commented: “The policy here is very clear, is this going to be a sufficient environmental enhancement to justify these houses instead of the bungalows?”

He indicated that he believed there would be, saying of the bungalows: “They do not fit comfortably into that environment in that village and I think there is potential for enhancement in this particular case.”

Members voted unanimously in favour of the plans.
