An access statement for the extension says: "The proposal will create employment for local people and could also provide a social point or outlet for the elderly residents of South Normanton as well as the residents of the home and retirement accommodation.
"The proposal is an extension to an already successful and established business and will hopefully facilitate its continued prosperity within the area.

"Normanton Lodge currently functions as a residential care home for the elderly and our client wishes to expand the business by diversifying into providing retirement accommodation for senior members of the community who wish to have their own residential unit with associated support network but wish to maintain their independence.
"The site has been the subject of a previous planning application to extend the existing care home to create a 40 bed nursing home.
"This was granted permission in September 2006.
