More than 30 churches turned out for one of Chesterfield's oldest traditions - the Whit Walks - despite a dull and wet Spring Bank Holiday Monday morning.

Hundreds marched through the town centre to witness their faith - with this year’s theme being ‘Jesus the Healer’.

The procession was led by Chesterfield Baptist Church, which had produced a walking tableau, cleverly turning crutches into crosses to illustrate the theme.

The Chesterfield Musketeers, the Ashover Brass Band and Central Methodist’s Worship Group provided the music for the morning and leading the act of witness were the mayor and deputy mayor.

A highlight was children’s entertainer Jugalubs - who returned for the second year and juggled en route - and, as always, there were decorated floats and walking tableaux all linked to the theme.
