Petition launched against proposal to infill site at former Glapwell Colliery
Applicant Derbyshire Waste Limited, a subsidary of waste management company FCC Environment, proposes to ‘re-profile’ Glapwell 3 on Stockley Lane to form a public country park including cycle paths and picnic areas.

Hide AdThe 9.2 hectares site would be infilled by 900,000 tonnes of material across four years with planting and landscaping taking a further year.
The petition which has more than 160 signatures states: “This site is now a unique wild life habitat containing a rich mosiac of grass and shale. It would be nigh on impossible to replicate what nature has produced here.
“Leaving aside wildlife, the real threat from this application is to the health and welbelling of local residents which is very serious.”

Hide AdThe application was submitted in October last year and a public consultation took place between November and December.
Planning documents on the Derbyshire County Council website say: “It is considered that, once created, the site will provide wide benefits in terms of green open space for the public realm.”
The application will be discussed at a Derbyshire County Council planning committee meeting in March.
