Young Chesterfield man died after using synthetic cannabinoids

Zaccary Sedgwick, 26, of no fixed abode, died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital from brain injury, heart problems and resulting tissue damage related to his use of the drugs, which are more commonly known as ‘spice’.

Recording a verdict that Mr Sedgwick's death was drug related, Derbyshire coroner Tanyka Rawden expressed her condolences to his family.

She told Chesterfield coroners’ court: “It is likely the acute myocardial ischaemic reperfusion injury which brought about his death was caused by the ingestion of synthetic cannabinoids on October 10, 2019.”

The medical cause of Mr Sedgwick’s death was given as hypoxic brain injury, cardiac arrhythmia and acute myocardial ischaemic reperfusion injury related to synthetic cannaboids use.

The inquest, held at Chesterfield Town Hall on Friday, December 18, was told Mr Sedgwick had also been born in Chesterfield.
