County winners for the National Pub & Bar Awards 2024 were revealed this month – with The Railway at King Street in Belper named the best pub in Derbyshire.
The National Pub & Bar Awards aim to showcase the UK’s finest pubs and bars on a national scale and crown the best venues within 94 counties across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The Railway has been known as a popular hotel since the 19th century, but in 2019 it was thoroughly refurbished and re-opened as a pub.
Former car park was turned into an extensive outdoor sitting area – which is now the biggest beer garden in Belper.
The pub has been featured in The Good Beer Guide for three consecutive years now and attracts locals with live music every weekend.
In the summer, the pub hosts various events including festivals featuring top-quality drinks and music.
Pete Marshall, who runs the pub alongside his wife Tracey, said: “The award is a recognition for all the hard work all the staff do here.
"It’s a nice friendly pub with beautiful surroundings - the staff are great and very friendly for all the customers. The locals love it, they always know they are safe and they know they always have a warm friendly welcome.
"We’ve got everything on drink font – a great selection of cask ales, bottled beers, lagers, ciders, gin, and whiskey.
"We have a lot of entertainment on. We are the main place for live music in Belper and we have lots of festivals in the summer.”
