'We have everything we need right now' insists Chesterfield Royal Hospital amid coronavirus pandemic

Chesterfield Royal Hospital has said ‘we have everything we need right now’ – as its hard-working staff continue to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Concerns have been raised nationally about a shortage of ventilators and a lack of protective equipment and tests amid the current Covid-19 crisis.

However, a spokesperson for Chesterfield Royal Hospital insisted this afternoon: “We have everything we need right now to provide safe care and treatment.”

The spokesperson previously told the Derbyshire Times that the Royal has ‘strengthened’ its critical care bed capacity and has a ‘well-rehearsed escalation plan’ – as the UK prepares for the peak of the coronavirus crisis in the coming weeks.

According to the Guardian newspaper, nurses will be transferred to London from other parts of England under NHS plans to help hospitals in the capital facing a ‘tsunami’ of Covid-19 patients within days.
