He had been ill since a fall in December.

The great-great grandfather - dubbed 'Britain's oldest daredevil' - made headlines across the globe and captured millions of hearts for achieving four Guinness World Records after his 100th birthday, raising thousands of pounds for many good causes.

Jack's daughter Jayne Goodwin, 59, today paid a touching tribute to her 'hero'.

She told the Derbyshire Times: "In his last few weeks he fought against all odds and I kept calling him my bionic man.

"He told me he had kept alive for me and his family.

"Words from the family are that he has left a legacy for us all but also for generations to come.

"He has touched the heart of the nation and their comments and well wishes have been overwhelming.

"I personally have lost my best friend and there will be a massive gap in my life for many years to come.

"He's my hero."

Barry Lewis, leader of Derbyshire County Council, described Jack as a 'remarkable Derbyshire man' and said he was sorry to learn of his passing.

Jack, of Hollingwood, became the oldest person to get a tattoo at 104, the oldest to ride a rollercoaster at 105, the oldest to take on a zip wire at 106 and the oldest to be a supporting artist in a TV show at 107.

Mark McKinley, an adjudicator for Guinness World Records, said Jack was an 'all round gentleman'.

He added: "It was an honour to get to spend his birthday with him over the past four years."

Jack completed many of his charity challenges live on ITV's Good Morning Britain.

Host Susanna Reid said: "Jack was an inspiration. He remains a legend."

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to Jack on our Facebook page.

Julia Hill said: "So sad. What an inspiring, happy man he was and what a wonderful life. I'll miss your antics. RIP Jack."
