The Duke of Devonshire was invited to tour the Matlock Spa vision, which will see five spa villages of just under 500 homes in the Peak District.

The first phase will see 20 houses and 38 apartments, in three separate buildings, alongside a ground floor retail space.

A total of 15 of the houses are due for completion by mid-September 2020 and the apartments by mid-February 2021.

Visiting Matlock Spa, alongside the Duke, were his son, William Earl of Burlington, Charles Rifkind and architect David Morley.

David Morley said: “It was a great honour to show the Duke of Devonshire around the first phase of Matlock Spa and see him share our enthusiasm for the very special sense of place which is nearing completion.

"After 20 years of hard work we can finally see the vision for Matlock Spa being turned into a reality.

“This is a unique development within easy walking distance of the Peak District National Park, Matlock train station and Matlock town centre.

" It’s designed to high levels of energy efficiency – all-electric with no gas boilers and with a layout which encourages walking and cycling.

"Generous open spaces and spectacular views to the Derbyshire Dales should engender a real sense of community.”
