Robyn Woolgar, who goes to St John's Primary School in Belper, wanted to donate her hair to the trust, which makes wigs for children going through cancer treatment.

When discussing her idea with dad, Tom Woolgar, Robyn decided she would also like to raise money for doctors and nurses fighting coronavirus.

Her hair has now been cut into a bob and Robyn’s efforts have already raised more than £400 for the NHS – smashing her original target.

Mum Emily Woolgar said: “We had talked about sending her hair to the trust previously, so measured it to check it was long enough.

“We talked about how this could be a chance to raise money for a charity too. She and Tom then set to work researching where she would like to send any money she raised and Robyn quickly decided that the doctors and nurses would be her chosen cause.

“She could not be happier with her achievements so far and we couldn't be prouder.

“Her dad is a watch manager at Alfreton fire station and I am an infant teacher so she is aware that key workers are continuing to help in every way they can, but we are totally in awe of the selflessness involved in working in a hospital at the moment.”

Robyn has two younger siblings, four-year-old Leo and Zara, two.
