Residents' anger as new-build housing estate in Chesterfield left ‘far from complete’

Residents are complaining that work is yet to be finished at the Regents Green development in Grassmoor, despite the developers Harron Homes hailing it a success

Harron Homes recently hailed the success of its Regents Green development after selling the last new-build property at the Grassmoor site.

But one resident, who wished to remain anoymous, claims the estate is anything but triumphant and has multiple areas that are ‘unsafe’.

Sharing pictures of the unfinished roads and pavements with the Derbyshire Times, he said: “As you can see the site is far from complete and nobody is updating us on when the site will be finished? There are a number of areas that are unsafe and could cause injury or damage to vehicles.”

"These are only a few of the issues, lots of residents have had multiple issues some very severe that Harron are just not following up on,” he also claimed.

“Several people have been in contact with Harron but no official updates, various residents of the site have been told by contractors that the roads and drains have failed inspection.”

A spokesperson for Harron Homes North Midlands said: “The final property at our Regent’s Green development in Grassmoor legally completed last month (August), following which we have been able to appoint a contractor to complete the outstanding highways works.

"We anticipate these works will be completed by the end of the year. We would like to thank residents for their patience during this time.”

It is not the first time concerns have been raised over the Regents Green site or the properties therein – with one Chesterfield family previously telling the Derbyshire Times how a series of problems with their new ‘luxury’ dream home had turned it into a ‘nightmare’.

Speaking in 2020, a spokesperson for the developer said it takes customer service ‘very seriously’ and would contacting the family about the issues raised.

Harron Homes recently celebrated the launch of two showhomes at Thorpe Meadows, its latest development in Holmewood which it says is just three miles away from the ‘popular’ Regents Green.
