£34k donation for Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospicecare
Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospicecare has received a £34,000 donation.
The money has come from Chesterfield’s seven Labour county councillors through their Community Leadership Scheme funds.
Speaking on their behalf, Councillor Ron Mihaly, who serves Boythorpe and Brampton south on Derbyshire County Council, said: “Covid-19 has obviously significantly increased the amount the hospice needs to spend to safely deliver support.
“Crucially, their finances are already devastated by the historical lack of statutory funding for end-of-life care.
“In addition, their loss in fundraising income and the need to meet additional costs of adapting services has had a dramatic effect.
“We were pleased to be asked by Ashgate Hospicecare if we could help – and more importantly were very proud to have been able to contribute such a significant amount from our Community Leadership Scheme funds.
“Obviously certain criteria had to be satisfied and the request ticked all the boxes.
“It was a no-brainer as lots of people have been touched by the work of the hospice.”
