Developers are seeking planning permission to transform the single-storey building at the junction of Town End and Welbeck Road.

The plans will now be decided upon by planning chiefs at Bolsover District Council.

Agents for the developer, Bradford-based Khawaja Planning Services, said: “It is proposed by our client to convert the dental surgery into a restaurant.

"As the building is relatively small a four-metre extension will be constructed to the rear of the property to cater for the kitchen, store room and disabled WC.

“A small porch will be added to the front of the property and large powder coated aluminium windows will also be installed.

“Every effort has been made in this proposal to meet the planning policies of the council.

"It is of upmost importance for developments to match and complement the host property and the wider properties in the surrounding area.”

Planning documents say the site will cater for six car parking spaces and one disabled space.

Derbyshire County Council’s highways department has asked for more information to determine whether enough off-street parking is provided.

One nearby resident, Alan Coombs, has also written to planners because of his concerns about traffic to the proposed restaurant.

He said: “I would raise concern at the volume of traffic to the restaurant. While the size is modest in terms of area covered, how much takeaway and delivery traffic is expected?”

Mr Coombs also questioned why the restaurant was planned for Town End despite ‘an abundance of empty restaurant premises and free car parks’ closer to Bolsover town centre.
