The planning application, submitted to the council, is to change the use of the former Royal Bank of Scotland building in Snitterton Road Matlock, and convert it into four two bed flats, demolition of 20th century extension and outbuildings and building two new build apartment blocks comprising of seven one bed apartments, nine two bed apartments and two three bed apartments.

The development is being put foward by Evans Vettori Architects and the applicant are excited about building on the outstanding work they have previously completed in the Old Matlock conservation area.

Together they have realised the ‘Horse Shoe Mews’ development which has been very well received.

Evans Vettori also realised ‘Parkside’ a mixed-use urban development, winning numerous awards including an RIBA National Award and also Supreme Winner of the Housing Design Awards in 2015.

A spokesman from Evans Vettori said: “Building on the huge success of the ‘Parkside’ (Cool River Café) development we are delighted to be able to make another positive contribution to our town.

"This scheme has been developed to restore and preserve the former RBS building and grounds, and to create two additional complimentary blocks with a total of 22 apartments.

"It will greatly improve the appearance and use of a neglected, shabby but highly sustainable site, and will help inject life to the town centre.“

The new proposal looks to build on this success within the Matlock Bridge Conservation Area with two smaller apartment buildings of the same quality in addition to returning the listed Bank House into residential use.

Within the Local Plan the area of the site is designated as a ‘Housing Allocation Site’ and provides a perfect location for a highly sustainable town centre development.

The intention is to ensure this development offers accessible, attractive town centre living for downsizers which releases larger family homes to the market, the site is very well located for transport as the entrance of the site is within 120m of the nearest bus stops/bus/rail interchange facility and level access is provided across the site to all buildings.
