Retired plasterer Michael Radford has been an amateur photographer since 1985, snapping images across Derbyshire.
After having a clear-out of photos he came across two candid shots he took in a cafe on Hall Bank, during a visit to Buxton in 1988 or 1989.
He said: “I have always liked candid photography, and when I first saw this young man on his own with the baby, I knew it was something special.
“The eye to eye contact, feeding the baby, surrounded by the pram, it's not every day you see this, (I've never seen it since), and I had to try and capture the moment.
“I think it turned rather well. I shot it hand held inside the cafe, and when I printed it out I was very pleased it was sharp.
“Probably my favourite candid photo.”
Michael was visiting the town with a group from the camera club and all the photographs taken on the day were entered into a competition.
The picture entitled Candid in the Cafe was awarded second place in a competition with Mansfield and District Photographic Society and photo, Modern Mann gained a third place award in another competition.
Michael, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, said: “I've always liked Buxton and have been several times since. I always look up above the modern shop fronts to appreciate the former Buxton.
“The old spa is a favourite, and would have loved to have seen Buxton in its heyday and to have indulged in, ‘taking the waters’.”
Michael previously developed and printed his own film and slides but is now completely digital.
He added: “I'm 70 years old now and having a clear out, it would be a shame to bin this photograph and I feel sure this chap, ‘baby’ or a relative would like this photograph.
"In any event I would be interested to know what happened to him and the baby.”
