Two men have been jailed for drugs offences after a car was stopped in Chesterfield.

Officers from the Newbold Safer Neighbourhood Team on patrol in the village saw a Seat Leon that was linked to drug supply in St John’s Road on March 12.

They signalled to the driver to stop but he continued for a short distance before officers forced the car to stop.

He was searched and bags of crack cocaine, heroin and crack were found on him as well as two Kinder eggs containing wraps of drugs, cash and three mobile phones.

Driver Gary Day was also arrested and his mobile phone was seized.

Checks on the phones found messages showing the mass marketing of drugs.

Elliot, 22, of Manvers Road, Sheffield, was charged with two counts of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Day, 51, of Curbar Curve, Inkersall, was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

They admitted the offences and appeared at Derby Crown Court for sentencing on April 7 where Day was jailed for three years and nine months

and Elliot for three years and ten months.

PC Lee Taylor, of the Newbold Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We know that drugs have a huge impact on our communities and are committed to doing all we can to tackle the supply of illegal substances.

“These two men were clearly involved in bringing drugs into our community so I am pleased that they are now paying the price for their actions with a spell in prison.

“I hope that these sentences send a clear message that drug dealing will not be tolerated in Derbyshire. We will investigate and we will bring you to justice.

“I’d urge anyone with any information about drug dealing in their area to please contact us. Let’s work together to ensure people like this can’t continue their business and cause further damage to our communities.”
