No charges have yet been brought after a man was arrested following the death of a pedestrian in Chesterfield.

Leo Benford, 27, of Meynell Close, Chesterfield, died after he was struck by a car travelling along the A619 Baslow Road, just outside Brampton, on the evening of August 1.

A 32-year-old man, from Chesterfield, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and subsequently released under investigation.

On Wednesday, Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed that enquiries were ongoing and no charges had yet been brought.

Following the incident, a force spokesperson said: “Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident and may have seen a man walking along the road before 10pm.

“Of particular interest is anyone who may have dash cam footage or CCTV that may be of use to the investigation.”

An inquest into Mr Benford’s death was opened in Chesterfield earlier this week.
