New gothic, alternative metal street food cafe opens in Derbyshire town - and sells out in 26 minutes
A new cafe with a gothic metal feel has opened in Buxton serving a city eating experience to the town and are already proving to be so popular that on the second day they sold out of food within 26 minutes.
Black Salt on Market Street is run by couple Abi Gregory and Jake Dean who have been together for nearly 10 years.
Running her own cafe has been a life long dream for Abi since she was four-years-old.
She said: “I got my passion for cooking and baking from my mum, grandma and auntie.

“I’ve tried to get a premises around Buxton the last couple years but as a young person wanting to do food I feel like I was seen as not being serious.” Abi has always worked in cafes and was previously doing 12 hour days in a cafe in Manchester.
The duo got the keys four months ago and set about putting their own spin on the business.
Abi said: “The vibe of the place is gothic, alternative, metal, street food, and chilled.
“As we both enjoy various types of metal and love the gothic vibe it seemed right to do it in the style we have, which also makes us stand out from other places in the area.”

Jake splits his time between the cafe and working as a barber at KVLT hair.
When the barber’s moved to bigger premises next door that left an empty unit which would be perfect for a new cafe.
He said: “I suggested to Abi that now is the best opportunity to take the premises as it’s been so difficult to find somewhere in the past.
“I didn’t want ordinary tables, I wanted something unique so I picked up some old barrels, painted them black and called upon some artists to graffiti on them and do some artwork.

“With the vibe of the cafe we have gone for a vibe Buxton has never seen.
“We’re bringing the City street food energy to the town.”
Abi agreed and said: “What sets us apart is that we offer a style of food that nowhere offers around here and everything is house made from the focaccia, to the 12 hour slow cooked bbq Dr Pepper brisket to every single baked good and everything in between.
Jake, 25, said they are the first ‘alternative’ cafe for miles and they ‘love that’.

He said: “We don’t want to fit amongst the norm.
“We want to create dishes and drinks that you won’t find anywhere else.
“There’s not many places you can spend your morning listening to metal and hip hop while having a coffee or a giant sandwich.
“I’m looking forward to seeing new faces come and try our food and drinks.
“There’s no better feeling than when a customer tells me how much they enjoyed their food.”
Abi says her favourite thing on the menu is the chocolate ganache cake and the peppermint mocha whereas Jake favours the Dr Pepper brisket and says he has spent a while perfecting the recipe and his go to drink is the white chocolate, hazelnut hot chocolate.
Black Salt is open Thursday to Sunday 11am to 6pm.
