Chesterfield Borough Council planning officers have given permission to change the use of a former haberdashery shop into the studio within the listed Victorian building.

The applicant expects the studio to be open from 9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday, and it will provide full-time work for two people.

No objections were received from the council’s conservation officer or Chesterfield and District Civic Society.

Planning documents say: “It is not considered that there are any significant impacts upon the surrounding area from a tattoo studio. There are no proposed external alterations.

“The change from a shop which sells products to a tattoo studio which provides a service for customers will ensure the business will still remain in sales,” the planning officer reports.

The Market Hall was built in 1857 and reopened in 2013 after a multi-million pound refurbishment.
