Major event in Chesterfield cancelled due to coronavirus crisis

Chesterfield Canal Trust volunteers have taken the difficult decision to cancel their annual summer festival because of coronavirus.

The festival was due to take place on June 27-28 and was set to once again attract large numbers of visitors to the historic waterway at Staveley.

However, the trust has announced that the event has now been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson said: “This is incredibly frustrating, especially for Dave Kiddy, Peter Hardy and Julie and Alan James who have all spent months organising it.

“They all deserve our heartfelt thanks. However, all is not lost because we will be hosting the IWA National Trailboat Festival at the end of May 2021.

“All of our tripboat cruises – public trips and charters – have been cancelled until August at the earliest.”

The trust hopes its walking festival in September can still go ahead.
