'Little superhero' from Derbyshire with rare heart defect raises thousands of pounds for NHS

Charlie Bradbury, of Killamarsh, suffers from Ebstein’s anomaly – which is a malformation of the right ventricle – and has already undergone four open heart surgeries.

The eight-year-old will need to have a heart transplant eventually.

As a way of thanking the NHS for everything they have done for him and so many others during the coronavirus pandemic – and inspired by 100-year-old fundraiser Sir Tom Moore – Charlie decided to undergo a sponsored head shave in aid of NHS Charities Together.

In doing so, he has raised a remarkable £3,170.

Charlie’s parents Lee Bradbury and Alex Harper said: “We’re both so proud of him.

“This was his way of giving something back to the NHS.

“He’s our little superhero.”

Charlie first underwent open heart surgery aged just six-days-old.

He had another aged one then two more when he turned four.

His parents added: “He’s got to have a heart transplant later in life.

“He’s had it really rough – he’s our little heart warrior and he’s very special.

“He was chuffed to bits to do the head shave and help so many people who have helped him so many times with his stays in hospital.”

They also thanked everyone who supported Charlie with his charitable endeavours.

NHS Charities Together is a federation of more than 250 charitable organisations which support the NHS, its staff, volunteers and patients across the UK.
