The authority says it has made the changes because of an increasing number of people who need financial support as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.

Councillor Jean Innes, cabinet member for business transformation and customers, said: “The council’s new online process is secure, quick and easy to complete and removes the need for residents to post or personally bring information into our Customer Services Centre.

“It also means we can begin to assess residents’ applications immediately, shortening the time it takes for benefits to be paid.”

Residents who need assistance when applying online can use the council’s webchat facility or call our contact centre team on 01246 345345.
