Chesterfield used to have a racecourse. It was situated on Whittington Moor, with part of it on Newbold Common. According to Chesterfield Museum: "The last officially recognised race at Chesterfield was in 1872. Unofficially, however, racing continued into the 20th century and the last meeting was held on July 29, 1924, and houses were then built on the site. The course followed almost exactly Stand Road, Pottery Lane, Racecourse Road East, Brimington Road North and Racecourse Road. Photo: Other
