Tapton House, the last home of railway pioneer George Stephenson, is owned by the borough council which rents it out as office space, but there are currently no tenants so the building is standing empty.
Campaigning group Friends of Tapton House is looking to take over the lease and make Tapton House a community centre.
Ideas that have been suggested include a wedding venue, cafe/tea room, artist exhibitions and workshops.
The group will host a public meeting on Wednesday, September 15, from 7pm to 9pm, at St Thomas Church Centre, Brampton. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Tapton House was gifted to the borough council by the Markham family with the wish that it was used for the education and enjoyment of the people of Chesterfield.
