Chesterfield e-commerce firm Xbite, which employs 170 staff at its offices and warehouses at Barlborough and Markham Vale, decided to spread some festive cheer by donating some of its budget from the Covid-cancelled staff Christmas activities to the New Hope Food Bank in Killamarsh.

More than 50 bags of food and essential items were put together by the firm and have been distributed to needy families in the region by the food bank.

The New Hope Food Bank provides emergency food to people in short term crisis and who are referred by professional partners including GPs, midwives and social services.

Tracie Otter, HR manager at Xbite, said: “As our usual Christmas treats, games and party could not take place this year due to Covid restrictions, we decided to use some of the budget allocated for our festivities to bring a little Christmas cheer to some local children, who may not get a visit from Santa this year.

“This year, more than ever, has been a struggle for so many families and the difficulties will continue well into the new year, so hopefully, our gift bags will go a little way towards helping those families.

“We chose local charity New Hope Food Bank at Killamarsh, who we know will make good use of our donation and they will be distributed quickly to local needy families.

It partners with professional agencies and is supported by councils, schools, supermarkets, churches and businesses across the region.
