The old Brockley Primary And Nursery School has stood empty on Clowne Road, Shuttlewood, since 2007 and has been left in a ‘dilapidated’ condition.
Derbyshire County Council applied to Bolsover District Council planners for permission to bulldoze the old school buildings, most of which date back to the start of the 20th century, and has now been given the go-ahead.

Hide AdAs part of the application, county council officer James Longmate said: “The building consists of a traditionally brick-built primary school with a tiled roof built about 1905-10, with additional wings added in the 1930s.
“The former primary stands on a site with brick build boundaries to both sides and tennis courts and grassed areas to the rear.
The current primary school has not been used since 2007 as a education building, which has left the building un-occupied resulting in dilapidation of the existing structure.
"No other community groups have used the building since.”
The report adds that the building will be demolished by a registered demolition contractor and any asbestos-based materials will be dealt with by a licensed asbestos removal firm.

Hide AdBolsover District Council’s case officer Kay Gregory said the demolition would not take place before ‘a programme of historic building recording and analysis’ had taken place.
Heritage conservation officer Kim Wyatt said: “Unfortunately, I don’t think there is anything else we can do at this stage to save the building.”
The new Brockley Primary School occupies a site further along Clowne Road.
