Dispersal orders covering parts of Derbyshire have been granted following what police describe as a ‘large’ car meet.

According to officers, members of the public have been reporting ‘vast’ numbers of vehicles meeting in car parks across Long Eaton, with some travelling to Derby.

Police say that while many are motoring enthusiasts, there have also been several reports of some people driving anti-socially, speeding and racing.

A dispersal order covering Long Eaton and Sawley is now in effect, along with a second one covering the whole of Markeaton Park and all of Darley Abbey in Derby.

Both orders are in effect for several days.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “It gives officers additional powers to tackle anti-social behaviour, such as allowing them to move groups on if they suspect such behaviour is likely to occur.

“They can also impose short-term bans on individuals returning to a specified area,” they added.
