Derbyshire woman reveals secret to long and happy life as she turns 100

That’s the secret to a long and happy life, according to 100-year-old Alice Sutton.

Alice, of Wingfield Road, New Tupton, celebrated her milestone birthday with family and friends at Tupton Village Hall on Thursday – and received a special card from the Queen.

After leaving school, Alice worked as a cleaner and a cook and was employed by Lamp Caps in Chesterfield.

She was also a plane spotter with the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

Alice married her husband Albert in 1950 but he passed away in 1999.

She has three children, Margaret, David and Michael, three grandchildren, Daniel, Julie and John, and three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Lauren and Mitchell.

Over the years, Alice enjoyed flower arranging and caravanning.

Alice’s daughter Margaret said: “My mum would say the secret to a long and happy life is to enjoy yourself!

“We’d like to thank everyone for the wonderful well wishes,” she added.
