Derbyshire County Council urges residents to stay at home as warmest day of year so far is expected

The UK is expected to record its warmest day of the year so far today – as the country’s coronavirus lockdown continues.

Under Government regulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19, people should only go out when absolutely necessary for food, medicine, work or exercise, always try to stay two metres apart and not meet others outside their household, even friends and family.

The county council’s graphic shows a ‘welcome to Derbyshire’ sign – but adds ‘please drive home for now’ with #stayhomesavelives.

Councillor Barry Lewis, the authority’s leader, said: “We know Derbyshire and the Peak District are tempting and beautiful places to visit when the forecast is good – but for now, don’t.

“At this crucial time we must to try to push down infection rates and ensure our NHS can cope and so it’s absolutely vital people heed the guidelines and regulations and stay local by staying at home.

“We want you back when it’s over but for now remain at home.”

Derbyshire police have also issued an important message to members of the public amid the warm weather during the lockdown, saying: “If you don’t need to leave home then please don’t.”

Tweets from Derbyshire police officers so far this weekend suggest the vast majority of residents are abiding by the Government’s regulations.
