A Derbyshire beauty spot has been closed amid concerns about social distancing not being followed.

The Arkwright Society has announced that public access to the Lumsdale Valley ponds and waterfalls near Matlock is currently forbidden.

A spokesperson for the Arkwright Society, in conjunction with Matlock Town Council, said: “We ask for your patience and understanding as action needed to be taken for safety reasons.

“This is due to recent unprecedented levels of visitor activity over the past weekend.

“The increased footfall to the site has raised safety concerns for visitors and residents.

“The natural limitations of the site have created issues with social distancing measures being followed and an increased risk of damage to the natural environment.

“Please help us take care of this special place by respecting this temporary restriction.

“Please do not travel to the site – parking and access will not be available.”
