Coronavirus: 18 deaths at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as Boris Johnson spends night in intensive care

A total of 18 people have now died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 – while in other coronavirus developments, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has spent the night in intensive care after his condition worsened.

Yesterday, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust confirmed it was caring for 75 patients with confirmed cases of Covid-19, 16 of whom are receiving care in a high-dependency or critical care setting.

Latest Government figures show there are now a total of 757 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Derbyshire – 494 in Derbyshire county and 263 in Derby city.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister – who was admitted to St Thomas’ Hospital in London on Sunday night – was moved to intensive care early last night after being given oxygen earlier in the day.

A statement said that Mr Johnson was still conscious but had been moved to intensive care to be nearer to a ventilator if it was needed.
